Prisons are the result of a society that has been mislead by following the Values of Wal-Mart & other forms of corporate greed. No one should be denied educational or medical benefits & no one should have to depend upon being named ‘Employee of the Month’ as their only source of validation. Parking lots, where no one walks to the stores , are not the answer. We must seek simpler ways to live that encourage education, appreciation of art & literature & no more throwing away of film promotional art into dumpsters. Let the creative spirit of art thrive, and become a benefit for all communities. Let us send a light out to the rest of the world of this special day!”

Dear Cako Cupcakes Company–Irish Car Bombs Are Neither Funny Nor Clever!

The name given to this product advocates violence & supports the concept of that the history of oppression against the Irish people is now reduced to a joke. This is not funny.

This is a redux. We live in a violent world. Groups are singled out in ways that go beyond ‘unfair.’ Jokes that are made at the expense of a group in order to sell a product are, in the very least,cheap. Add to that, the concept that your company is putting down a group of people–Would you now sell Boston Car Bombs?

Would you have Columbine Specials? Rename your product. Give it a name that does not put my people down. Do not sell cupcakes that you name “Irish Car Bombs.” The joke is dreadful & tasteless & offensive. Do your job, and change the name of this product.

Slurs For Sale–NINA?* Irish Car Bombs

This is supposed to be funny. Many have died as a result of these measures of despair, measures of despair that should never have happened–and there is an ugly history behind these actions, ever since The Tudor Conquest.

* NINA, back in the days of newspaper want ads, tacked on at the end, meant, “No Irish Need Apply.” This is what my great-grandparents & grandparents had to cope with & why mostly the jobs they got were railroad & police-related. These jobs provided the best opportunities for some degree of economic stability. Eventually, this sort thing ended, but there remain residual elements, when there could be clever names that could sell items without the built-in expense of human dignity. A slur is a slur is a slur, just as Gertrude Stein observed about roses.
