This is a photograph of Salvador Dali & Walt Disney taken in the 1940s. I am guessing that it is in California.

Art Game II
This is a water colour painting by my cousin, Martha Outt Harns, done in 1987. She is now 87 years old & sadly, lives in a residential facility for Alzheimer’s Disease patients. I wanted to post this as part of the Art Game series as a tribute to the body of work that she left us. This painting shows some degree of Thai dance culture, in terms of the hand & finger positions, but the costume design, as I understand it, is her interpretation or composite of similar costumes from South East Asia.
Art Game III
This is a result of my point & click camera. The Art Game series has inspired me to record the art I see around me in San Francisco on a daily basis. Not all art has to be within the walls of a museum or a palace. It can be part of your daily life, if you let it. I call this one Kitty Cat Sidewalk, not knowing who created it, nor what (if any) name was given to it. It was taken not very far from where I work.
CODA: I had a funny, sweet, naughty, smartest-cat-in-the-world. Her name was Marnie, after the Alfred Hitchcock movie. To the best of my ability to know, the only thing she ever shoplifted was my heart. She was in my life for 15 years, before she died. I miss her very much. To Marnie, my little meow-face!

Atlas Stands Unnoticed Before The Holy Wisdom
I started this painting in 2007. It was rejected. I repainted it, after years of pain, in 2010, understanding it was growth which caused both the pain & the release of the cause of that pain. Now, the painting is free & in so being, it has released me from much sadness.

Art Game V Jay Defeo/The Rose
This monumental painting by artist Jay Defeo is one of the most astonishing & spiritually moving works of art I have ever experienced in my life. I first became aware of it several years ago by taking a class called Women In Art History, City College, San Francisco. It's history of having to be removed from an apartment here in San Francisco, due to the eviction of the artist & the story of having the bay window that was it's original backdrop setting removed & a crane used to hoist it to the street-level moving van added to my intrigue of the work. I was impressed by the photographs I had seen & by what I had read about the struggles of the artist. But NOTHING, NOTHING at all could have prepared me for the emotional & spiritual experience of seeing it in real life, real time, minus the bay window that was it's original backdrop. Much has been written about this work. The only thing I can add, with a tone of urgency is: Please, take the time to see this for yourself while it is back in San Francisco, at the Museum of Modern Art. It is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Photography can certainly show you what it looks like, but you need to experience this in person, as an active viewer, in order to be fully overwhelmed. My paltry words do not do it justice, not at all!

Art Game VI: Andy Warhol-Knockoff
This is a painting of Andy Warhol @ a cafe entrance on Divisadero Street, San Francisco. I liked the idea of it being more or less street art, not in a museum & not costing several millions of dollars. It's not signed. Post Mortem would make that a bit of a challenge, even freaky. Calling it a knockoff is a tip of the hat to Jean-Claude Van Damme & to Warhol, since they both did the same thing over & over & over. One was a genre artist, the other is an genre actor. Duplication must be in the wrist & the timing. Makes the term monetize seem rather quaint. Enjoy!

No Smoking Sign. This is the international standard glyph for "No Smoking." It is simple & well designed, making it's simple message obvious to all who can see. Why is it still being ignored by people? This is a question for which there is no simple answer. I hope that by posting this work of functional art, the message can be repeated: You deserve to have a full life that does not include destroying your lungs or harming the environment. Think: if every tobacco field were turned into a forest, how good that would be for the planet! That, alone, is a very exciting concept. Help make it a reality!

The Art of The Green Chile Kitchen concludes with this little series of photographs of the lovely little shop, located 601 Baker Street. This is so perfect, to have a pie shop on Baker Street. Now if that is not meant to be, what is?
Location is everything & having Green Chile Pies right on Baker Street makes for such perfect branding identity!
601 Baker Street, best pie in San Francisco, maybe even in the world!
The inviting sign outside is beautifully done, but don’t linger too long admiring it’s allure, or you might miss out on that last slice of the pie that you like best. But if that happens, don’t cry like Edith Massey did about the possibility of no more eggs, because there will be more pies, just as there will be more eggs. Don’t fret! Don’t worry. Your needs will be met!
This sign will temp you to enjoy the best pies ever!
Yes, the buttery crusts would make Julia Child quite happy, I think.
And if you do worry about eating all of the eggs & that could be something that happens, a world with no more chickens, you will have these reminders of chickens made of ceramic that decorate the shop. Let’s hope that Edith Massey’s worries won’t come true.
These are guardian chickens! They make sure that your honey is organic.
At the very first Pie shop, the chairs are very cute, with a design that makes the setting home-like & very comfortable.
The chairs have something in common with the pies. The pies are almost too pretty to eat, and the chairs are too pretty to sit upon. But you are welcome to do both! The art of eating well…
Pie for the Faithful, Our Lady’s image, part of the New Mexican culture, is present.
And this rooster will watch over all things, just in case the pie supply gets low, he will make that famous rooster sound, to alert the baker to “Hurry to Baker Street, Pies are needed.”
Mister Rooster at your service-601 Baker Street.
You scream, we scream, we dream of ice cream. And it’s right there, along with the Pie!
HERE IS THE YOU TUBE THAT SHOWS IT ALL–JUST UP THE STREET FROM THE PIE SHOP!
If you want Church, there are still a few that have not been closed down. If you want to be on Church Street, & feel renewed by good food while surrounded by inspiring & simple decor, Green Chile Kitchen-ette is a place that will leave both appetites well nourished.
Let me tell you, their newest addition to the menu, the cakes, are a religious experience. It’s almost a sin to be the first one to buy a slice. The cakes are beautiful, something that would give artist Wayne Theibaud a run for his brushes. They are as wonderful to eat as they are to look at—’tis a total experience for the senses, visual, taste buds, tummy filling, and the texture–art you are allowed to eat.
The owner, Trevor Logan, has wisely chosen to keep with the Southwest New Mexico art influences in terms of extending the decorating influences one experiences @ the McAllister Street location, the Mother Church.
Here is a menu of some of the visual art:
The sign tells you right where you are.
This sweet ceramic chicken greets you, but quietly. She has a reddish-orange charm. Now, what might that be? Drop by & find out!
The place is tiny, but don’t forget to look up. The light fixture is splendidly rustic!
The star of the decor is this geometrically complex quilt, ironically adding a simple visual charm. That’s two birds with one work of art, so to speak.
And this tile design you will see @ the “Mother Church” on McAllister Street, making you feel right @ home.
And the staff is very nice & happy to serve you the art you can eat while looking @ the art from your seat. Now, is that a sLOGAN?
Food photography is exceptionally challenging. But, when you have such enticing subject matter put before you, grab that point & click & give it your best shot. Just looking @ this makes me hungry. Their nachos are naturally good, because they are made from the finest of organic ingredients AND you have the pleasure of being served by a first-rate staff in a happy & pleasant environment. There’s something for almost everybody! Best New Mexican cuisine in the City! Salud!
Eat well & be happy @ Green Chile Kitchen 1801 McAllister Street, San Francisco-(415)440-9412
When I saw her, I knew that she was missing something very important in her life. There was that sort of blank stare, without any particular focus, freezing in its exclusion, but consuming others with a self-absorbed confusion. “What is the matter?” I wondered. “What went so wrong in that life?” That life that was all about keeping up appearances could no longer even squint to see, no longer had a self image, or a vision in her head, it was all about emptiness. I just thought to excess, wearing myself out with an endless array of dysfunctional scenarios for her.
I could not even tell if she had amblyopia or was just supremely self contained. Nothing inside me could fathom the mystique she projected, the unscalable fortress of self protection she had was to a degree I had never experienced.
If only I could help her…I wanted to be a Good Samaritan, or be her theatrical agent, or both.
Later, wandering on Market Street, I found what she had lost, her prescription sunglasses. It all came together, the dots connected, she was just too proud to admit being near-sighted.
And I thought I had discovered the next Grace Kelly…
Served by a friendly & helpful staff, the Blue Bottle coffee drinking ritual must be experienced. It’s soothing just to watch the preparation—bringing to mind that famous song by Carly Simon: ANTICIPATION! It’s a great addition to the fine food offered on the menu. Location is 1801 McAllister Street, San Francisco.
The design is simple & clean, just how you want your coffee to be.
It is made to order, so no pot of coffee is sitting around undergoing any form of evolutionary change. Yours will be fresh!
